Davido and Rarara Clash Over World Cup Message on Nigeria’s Insecurity

A heated exchange has erupted between Afrobeats superstar Davido and popular Hausa singer Dauda Kahutu, widely known as Rarara, over Nigeria’s insecurity.

The disagreement began after Davido performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles wearing a customized jacket with the message “Bring Them Home” alongside the names of dozens of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State. The outfit was intended to draw international attention to the victims and call for their safe return. (Premium Times Nigeria)

Reacting to the performance, Rarara criticized Davido, arguing that taking Nigeria’s security challenges to a global stage damaged the country’s image. He claimed that such issues should be handled carefully and not be used in a way that could attract negative international attention. Rarara also suggested that the gesture could be politically motivated. (Premium Times Nigeria)

Davido, however, rejected the criticism. He insisted that every Nigerian has the right and responsibility to speak out against insecurity. According to the singer, remaining silent while innocent citizens are abducted is not the solution, stressing that patriotism means speaking the truth and standing up for the safety of Nigerians. The exchange has generated widespread reactions on social media. While many Nigerians praised Davido for using his international platform to advocate for the kidnapped victims, others agreed with Rarara’s view that security matters should be addressed without portraying the country negatively before the world. The controversy has once again sparked a national conversation about the role of celebrities in addressing social and political issues. It also highlights the differing opinions on whether raising awareness internationally helps the fight against insecurity or harms Nigeria’s reputation.

As the debate continues, many Nigerians agree on one point: the safe return of the abducted victims remains the most important priority.
