Former First Lady Michelle Obama delivered an emotional tribute that left her husband, former U.S. President Barack Obama, visibly moved during the opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
Speaking before family, friends, and supporters, Michelle praised her husband’s dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to public service. In a touching moment, she told the audience that she wanted to do something Barack would never do himself, publicly celebrate his accomplishments.
“I’m going to do something my husband would never do himself — sing his praises,” she said, drawing applause from the crowd.
As Michelle reflected on their journey together, cameras captured Barack Obama wiping away tears, creating one of the most memorable moments of the event.
The former First Lady also paid tribute to her late mother, Marian Robinson, who died in 2024. In a deeply personal gesture, she wore a skirt featuring a portrait of her mother as a young woman, honoring the woman she described as the foundation of their family.
The event also saw a rare public appearance by daughters Malia Obama and Sasha Obama, who joined their parents on stage as the family celebrated the opening of the presidential center.
Social media users quickly reacted to the touching scene, with many praising Michelle Obama’s speech as one of her most heartfelt and inspiring public addresses in recent years.
The emotional occasion highlighted not only the legacy of the Obamas but also the values of family, service, and love that have defined their lives in and out of the White House.
