A man who was captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman has been arrested by operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) of the Abia State Police Command.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement released by the unit, which disclosed that the suspect was apprehended on June 20 in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba following credible intelligence gathered by security operatives.

According to the police, the suspect came under investigation after a disturbing video showing him repeatedly attacking a woman circulated widely across social media platforms, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

Acting on information received, operatives led by CSP Emeka Amanchukwu swiftly tracked down the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

The police stated that the suspect remains in detention as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the assault

The arrest has since generated reactions online, with many Nigerians commending the police for responding promptly to the viral incident and ensuring that the suspect was brought into custody.
