Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued five people, including three children, who were reportedly abducted during a terrorist attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources disclosed that the rescue mission was carried out on 19 June 2026 at about 11:40 a.m. while personnel of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion were conducting a perimeter clearance patrol in the Bakasi general area.

During the operation, the troops spotted five individuals wandering through a bush path near Ngoshe and suspected they had escaped from Boko Haram/ISWAP captivity.

The rescued victims were identified as 80-year-old Fatima Adamu, 55-year-old Maryam Yakubu, 12-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim, 11-year-old Musa Ibrahim, and eight-year-old Fadima Adamu.

After locating the victims, the troops carried out an additional clearance operation covering approximately 500 metres around the area to confirm it was safe before returning to their base.

Initial findings indicated that the victims were residents of Ngoshe and had been taken hostage during a terrorist assault on the community on 3 March 2026.

Military personnel provided the rescued individuals with first aid before handing them over to the community leader, Mallam Bulama Kunda, for reunification with their families.

The military also stated that although the overall security situation across the North-East theatre is relatively calm, it remains unpredictable, stressing that troops continue to maintain a high level of vigilance and operational readiness in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
